The Newquay Business Improvement District (BID) will soon be launching an innovative tool to help promote independent retailers in the town: Newquay’s ‘Indies Pocket Shopping Guide’. The guide, which comes in a handy compact size, is intended to help local people and visitors alike to ‘shop local’ and support the eclectic nature of the high street.
It encompasses all of the independent retailers in Newquay, revealing the unique range of retail outlets that Newquay’s Town centre has to offer. With over 80 listings the guide covers everything from retro music sellers and charming gift shops, to artisan food producers and the latest in Surf and Skate fashion.
Newquay BID’s Marketing and PR Assistant Alice Beard says: “With the ever rising emphasis upon sustainability and the supply chain, learning to ‘shop local’ is becoming an increasingly important element in everyday life. However for many people it is simply a matter of not knowing how or where they can source local produce and support the high street.
“The guide to independent retailers is the perfect way to show Newquay’s residents and visitors where to find their town’s independent retailers and discover what’s on offer. Where else can you enjoy such a vibrant mix of retail outlets, or find that special one-off gift for a loved one? The guide is intended to celebrate and promote our diverse and specialist retail community, ensuring that we support our specialist local businesses, as well as the high street chains we are all familiar with.”
Jess Parkin of Johnny’s Tobacconist’s on East Street says: “An independent shopping guide is important in order to represent the independent retailers of Newquay, especially for small retail outlets such as Johnny’s that may have previously been overlooked.”
5,000 copies of the Independent Shopping Guide and will be distributed to all of Newquay’s Independent Retailers, as well as being stocked in Newquay’s Tourist Information Centre. The guide will also be available to view as a pdf on www.visitnewquay.org or www.newquaybid.co.uk.
Letters will be distributed this week to all eligible retailers so if you’re an independent retailer in the BID area make sure you keep a look out for it! If you would like more information on the guide please email firstname.lastname@example.org, or alternatively phone the BID office on 01637498599
