Fistral reindeer 2

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and Newquay Business Improvement District (BID) is celebrating by bringing not only Santa Claus and his real life reindeer to Newquay town, but also a whole host of winter warmers and festive treats at an undercover Food & Craft Market.

Newquay BID has teamed up with Newquay Town Council to provide a programme of seasonal events in the second Festive Festival which promises to be even bigger and better than the first. The 2013 Festive Festival will kick off on Friday 29th November, providing a whole host of cracking Christmas fun up until Sunday 1st December 2013.

Top of the Christmas list is a much anticipated return visit from Santa and his reindeer. The Cairngorm Reindeer Herd is Britain’s only herd of reindeer, found free ranging in the Scottish mountains. These tame and friendly

animals are a joy to all who come and see them.

Santa and his incredible team of four–legged flyers will be waiting outside the Hotel Victoria from 3pm-6.45pm to meet all the children of the town and hear how good they’ve been this year. Shortly afterwards they will dash and dance their way to join the lantern parade as it comes past the hotel.

In addition to this special visit, the popular Food & Craft Market will be taking place in the car-park on Fore Street, overlooking the bowling green and Towan beach. Stuffed full of tasty treats, winter warmers, Christmassey crafts and perfect presents, it is the ideal place to pick up a unique gift for a loved one and support local traders. The market will trade from 12pm until 8pm on Friday 29th November and 10am-5pm on Sunday 1st December, and will be completely undercover meaning shoppers can browse whatever the weather.

To take advantage of the increased number of visitors this year, special late night shopping will be happening right across the town on Friday 29th November with many establishments throwing open their doors until 8:30pm. T

his year, the BID is encouraging many more retailers and hospitality establishments to prepare their own Christmas and late night shopping elements in advance so they can take advantage of this key footfall opportunity.

Eve Wooldridge, Newquay BID Manager says, “The Festive Festival aims to bring some Christmas magic to Newquay and with it lots of visitors looking to get into the seasonal spirit to do some late night shopping. We’re thrilled that so many businesses are opening later during the festival period to provide great shopping options for everyone.

“The BID is pleased to be bringing back the Food & Craft Market by popular demand. Many local traders have signed up, including Sparkly Parties, Katie’s Cornish Hot Pots and Café Irie representing a diverse retail offering. We urge people looking for creative gift ideas and hot festive food to pop head down to Fore Street.”

Eve continues, “The return of Santa and his reindeer is certainly a real treat and will be a big draw for many people to come and visit Newquay. I know lots of people both young and old are very excited about seeing his crew of flying friends at the Hotel Victoria. Just make sure you bring your Christmas list.”
