The Newquay BID is excited to announce that the profile of the event will be raised this year with the added value of having the Lord’s Taverners take part in the event. The Lord’s Taverners are the charitable arm of the Lord’s Cricket ground and are the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity dedicated to giving disadvantaged and disabled young people a sporting chance.

In the group stages, two teams from the Lord’s Taverners will take on a selection of local teams from across Cornwall who have been invited to come and take part in a six aside tournament to battle it out to win a coveted trophy. This year’s teams include so far: two teams from the Lord’s Taverners, a Cornwall Minor Counties team, a team from Newquay, a ladies selection, a select team from West Cornwall and a team from a local radio station.

The first game will kick off at 10:30am, followed by many exciting and competitive rounds that will reveal this year’s strongest players. The final will take place at 3pm, with the two best teams of the day going head to head in a fight to the top. Following the tournaments, presentations will take place at 4pm at the Beach Bar.

Dave Eggins, Chairman of Newquay Cricket Club said “This year we are delighted to be inviting the Lord’s Taverners to come and play in the third annual Newquay BID Beach Cricket Tournament and I am so pleased to have been able to watch the way in which the event Is growing from strength to strength.”

BID Manager, Emilie Calhaem, said: “We are really excited about running the Beach Cricket tournament again for 2014. The event was a success last year but we really wanted to build on this and deliver an even bigger and better tournament. We have some excellent contacts in Newquay and it’s great to have them on board this year, especially the Lord’s Taverners.”
