Wave ProjectA weekend of free surfing for disabled people will take place at The Wave Project Summer Surf Challenge on June 21st-22nd in Newquay. The event at Fistral Beach will include a surf competition for people with disabilities, plus free surf taster sessions all weekend run by former UK surf champion Russell Winter and pro surfer Hannah Harding.

Please note that unfortunately the dates were printed incorrectly in the Summer Events Guide and we would be very grateful to all businesses who are able to help share the event over their Facebook and Twitter pages – http://www.waveproject.co.uk/news/summer-surf-challenge-2014/

Art8 Newquay’s Art and Culture Festival will be filling the streets of Newquay from May 23rd to 26th. The BID will be contributing £1500 to Art8 to enable them to put on a series of street theatres and entertainments for families throughout the last May bank holiday. These will include Story Republic and Squashbox who have a large Cornwall based following with the view to attracting near locals to the town.

Newquay BID has provided the Newquay Carnival with the funds needed to update their website and to have their brochure printed allowing them to use the money that they have secured as sponsorship to contribute to the event itself. In addition to this the BID is also helping to organise this year’s mascot race on Saturday 12th July so if you have a mascot you would like to take part please email alice.beard@newquaybid.co.uk for more information.

The Miracle Theatre will be performing William Shakespeare’s The Tempest at the grounds of the Headland Hotel on 19th July, the BID will be contributing £500 towards fencing, porta-loos and security guards. BID will also be helping to promote this event out of Cornwall area. Tickets are now on sale via Hall for Cornwall. A family ticket was provided for the Pirate FM competition and Nick Webb came and interviewed to help promote the event.

Taking place on 4th to 5th July Newquay’s Night Surf will once again be gracing the sands and waves of Fistral beach. This year the BID will be contributing to the infrastructure of the event plus paying for the fire works on the last night of the competition. The event however is still searching for additional sponsors to and is asking businesses in Newquay if they would be interested in this opportunity. If so please contact Dave Reed at the UKPSA on 01637 854854. Anyone can sponsor the event and there are different options.
