This initiative was set up by Newquay BID to help the high street look extra Christmassy and generate festive feeling in the town. The triumphant winner last year was Smile Surf Shop as their detailed display, complete with papier-mâché reindeer, blew the judges away. It was, however, not an easy decision with so many fabulous displays to choose between.
Kate Cortez, Newquay BID Manager, says about this year’s competition, “Last year we had such an amazing turn out of entries for the festive window display competition and we want to top that this year with even more retailers getting involved in filling the streets with festive cheer.”
“We are also including a first and second prize this year which will hopefully incentivise businesses to get involved. The first prize is a great £350 worth of advertising in the Newquay Voice, with the second prize following closely behind at £250 worth of advertising. We are really grateful to the Newquay Voice for matching our prize money allowing us to offer these fantastic incentives.”
This year’s competition is tied-in with the lovely BID created ‘Hidden Elf Trail Competition’ and clue sheets can be picked up from the Tourist Information Centre and the Esplanade Hotel on South Fistral. Each clue sheet will also include a list of business participants in the window competition as well as a voting form so residents and visitors can vote for their favourite between Friday November 28th and Sunday December 21st. Alternatively, there will also be a small voting form in the Newquay Voice on Wednesday November 26th.
For more details about Newquay’s Christmas programme, people are invited to pick up a copy of the Festive Events Guide which lists details of all local events up until New Year’s Eve. Created by the BID for the fourth year running, 10,000 copies of the guide have been distributed. Copies can be collected from the Tourist Information Centre or downloaded from www.newquaybid.co.uk.
