Cornwall Council has announced that Newquay will be a pilot area for reduced evening parking rates for a three month trial period which started on 15th March and covers the all-important Easter holidays. During this time, parking in all local car parks will be just £1 for 6PM TO 12.30AM, rather than the normal costs of either £2.10 or £3.00.
Rachel Craze, Chairperson for Newquay Chamber of Commerce said: “This is a great opportunity as we head into the spring tourist season to attract more people to the town in the evening. Whether it’s for a sunset stroll along the beach followed by a romantic meal in one of Newquay’s many restaurants, or the chance to grab a quick bite to eat before a trip to the Lighthouse Cinema, the reduction in parking charges should act as an incentive to people to come. We are really pleased that the BID has had these posters made up to help us promote the offer”.
Emilie Calhaem, BID manager said “The BID believes that the reduction in the evening car parking tariff for this trial period is a clear signal of support from Cornwall Council for Newquay’s economy. The BID has lobbied hard for these parking charges to be trialled and therefore has created a specially designed poster campaign to help the businesses and the town promote this great offer to locals and visitors alike.
“We are asking businesses to get in touch for a copy to put in their windows. The BID will also be promoting this offer through social media and are asking businesses to tweet about it with the hashtag #Newquay during the vital Easter holiday period.”
