The BID will work with Cornwall Council to help enhance the town’s street environment and public realm to make it a more appealing area and positive asset to the town. Activities as part of this project include:
Erection of flags and banners
Creation of business information signage
Greening projects e.g. hanging baskets and planting
Hanging baskets – Historically, businesses have paid for individual baskets outside their premises but the BID felt that it was imperative to offer value for money in the current climate. This year, Newquay BID has funded the set up and maintenance of hanging baskets on buildings from Fore Street through to Bank Street with help and dedication from Newquay in Bloom and CORMAC
Planters – In addition to the hanging baskets on the high street the BID has funded 6 planters located on Gover Lane to brighten up the street. As one of the key gateways down to Towan Beach, the BID felt it was important to honour the retailers on Gover Lane and provide greenery that could be taken in during the evenings.
Street Banners – In September 2011, Newquay BID designed and erected banners at the Bus Station in order to visually enhance a central transport area in Newquay. This initiative was then replicated with banners on East Street which aimed to brighten up the high street with colourful, BID branded banners in a key retail area.
Footfall Counter – In July 2012, Newquay BID installed a footfall counter into Bank Street to enable us to monitor pedestrian flow all year round and measure the impact of events. Newquay in Bloom Tree Walk Map – In 2014 Newquay BID contributed funding towards the Newquay in Bloom Tree Walk Map enabling them to make modifications to the guide with the fold out map.
