The Fishy Town Trail will take place between Friday 11th and Sunday 13th September. Following a map and set of clues, participants will need to navigate their way from Cliff Road to the Harbour to locate the 12 fish located in businesses throughout the town. Once they have located each fish they can collect a special stamp from each business on their map.
At the end of the trail, participants are encouraged to hand in their completed map to the Tourist Information Centre to claim a lovely prize. Each participant will also be entered into a draw which takes place on Monday 14th September to win one of two great prizes donated from local businesses. The two fantastic prizes are a family ticket for Newquay Zoo and a cute cuddly crocodile from the Blue Reef Aquarium.
The fish have all been created by children at a free art work shop that took place at the Blue Reef Aquarium with artist Chris Nixon. Organised by Newquay BID and funded through a grant from FEAST Arts Council, the workshop gave local children the chance to get creative and make beautiful masterpieces from willow.
Alice Beard, Newquay BID Marketing and Event Co-ordinator, says: “This is the first year we have run a Fish Festival Town Trail but just as with many of the other trails we have organised it is a great free activity for families to take part in.”
Alice continues: “The aim of all the town trails we organise are to offer family’s a fun free activity and also to encourage foot fall throughout the town. It also gives residents and visitors a chance to discover different businesses that they may not have visited before.”
Maps will be available to pick up from the Tourist Information Centre at the bottom of Marcus Hill and at the Visit Newquay stand at the Newquay Fish Festival. All completed clue sheets must be returned to the Tourist Information Centre by 4pm on Sunday 13th September to be entered into the prize draw.
