Newquay Business Improvement District (BID) is encouraging residents to take advantage of reduced car parking rates across the town this winter in an effort to support the high street during the run up to Christmas.
Residents and visitors alike can park all day for just £1 or for FREE in many car parks from 1st November 2013 until 15th March 2014. Albany Road, Mount Wise and St Georges Road car parks are all £1 for the day, with Atlantic Road, Belmont, Dane Road, Harbour, Pentire Headland, Towan Headland and Tregunnel Hill car parks being FREE of charge for the winter period.
Working with Cornwall Council, Newquay BID is again reducing parking charges throughout the town in an effort to attract more Christmas shoppers to the high street and lengthen the amount of time that people stay in town. The £1 parking campaign is aimed at residents and visitors alike, and is being promoted through social media and advertising to raise awareness and increase uptake.
Eve Wooldridge, BID Manager said: “This is the third year in a row that parking has been reduced to £1 or FREE in most of the Cornwall Council car parks in Newquay. However, we have received feedback from some residents and businesses that they are still unaware of the ongoing campaign. We have therefore taken steps to address this and to promote the scheme more widely using advertising and social media.
“Working with our local retail forum businesses they felt that it was hugely important for the BID to promote this campaign to residents not only within Newquay but our wider catchment area too. Our high street has a diverse mix of well-known chains and independents offering a range of fashion, food and festive gifts. By raising awareness of the great discounts available we are hoping that local people and visitors will be encouraged to come to the town to do their Christmas shopping and stay that little bit longer once they are here.”
