Children, adults and businesses alike are beginning their preparations for the return of Newquay’s spook-tacular Zombie Crawl on Saturday 26th October. The ever-popular, free ghoulish extravaganza takes to the Newquay streets and hundreds of participants can expect the unexpected, with new bangs, crashes, shocks and surprises as they tour the town’s turns and lanes where ever-hungry Zombies and evil spirits lurk, ready to pounce!
And it may be half term, but there are certainly no half measures as Newquay Business Improvement District (BID), working with events manager Anton Paul, are re-engineering the 2019 Zombie Crawl to create a closer, and more exhilarating experience, for all involved.
Festivities kick-off at Newquay Library at 11:30am – 2:30pm with a Zombie Makeover workshop, hosted by Blystra Arts which will lead face painting, scar making and costume zombifying for all the family. Attendees can decorate tshirts and shirts ahead of the parade and perfect their spooky look.
Starting from 3pm on Saturday 26th October, people of all ages are encouraged to don their gory get-ups and ghoulish glad-rags, and to meet outside Ben & Jerry’s to prepare for the extravaganza.
Led by our very own Anton Paul in full charismatic costume, and accompanied by stilt-walking, sinister characters Ann Thrax and family, locals and visitors alike will explore the streets together, encountering and slaying wicked Zombies as they go!
Betty Bonne-Fire will be breathing fire and bringing her unique entertainments to the afternoon and prizes and treats will be given along the way and all participants are encouraged to ‘ham it up’ at every chance! All intrepid participants will be enticed to follow-along to tread underground to the free spooky disco at the Hotel Victoria and Berties, for all ages, where all will dance and hang out together, continuing to ward off the evil spirits by having a brilliant time with spooky acrobatic performances from Newquay’s famous dance studio, Trio.
The Griffin Inn will also continue the Spooktacular happenings, with a family Zombie party from 2:30pm – 6pm encouraging all to dress up and delight. The Griffin team are going all out with decorations and fancy dress, food will be available, as well as treats for the children, face painting and Halloween themed games. Entry is free and there will be a brilliant DJ all dressed up. The Cribbar will also have treats for zombies pre-crawl on the 26th.
Newquay BID is encouraging all local businesses to make the very most of this ever-popular extravaganza for both locals and half term visitors with a Spooky Shop Window Competition! The Newquay Voice has promised the best themed shop window a fantastic prize of 6 free adverts in the publication, running up to Christmas worth £500. If you would like the judges to visit your shop window on the morning of October 26th, please email anna@newquaybid.co.uk.
Newquay BID Deputy Chair Andy Cole says, “Our annual Zombie Crawl is one of the biggest parades of the Newquay streets, purposefully designed to bring trade and customers to the town centre, in a fun and fitting way. We’d love to see all businesses getting involved and our event manager Anton Paul would be delighted to hear anyone’s ideas on how to enhance and engage the town further, utilising the businesses along the way. We’re grateful to the Newquay Voice for supporting our shop window contest by donating such a generous prize!”
Andy continues, “Our Newquay BID social manager is ready and waiting to hear about any Newquay business Halloween or Zombie offers or deals, and we’re keen to photograph and film businesses as they dress up and prepare to participate in the Crawl as it heads right along their doorsteps, so we can spread the word and publicise their invigorating input. Anyone with ideas or opportunities should please contact Anna Williams at Newquay BID on anna@newquaybid.co.uk or on 07487 590966.”
