From the 1st April 2019 until 31st October 2019, all Cornwall Council-run, long stay car parks in Newquay (except The Harbour) are free in the evenings – from 4pm to 9am. These car parks include The Manor, Dane Road, Fore Street, Belmont, Towan Headland and Mount Wise. The Harbour car park is £1 per session from 6pm – 7am.
The continuation with the removal of evening parking tariffs should help to increase footfall in the town centre and surrounding areas and allow both visitors to Newquay and residents to make the most of the town’s vibrant range of restaurants, bars, cafes and bistros as well as later opening hours for shops in the spring and summer and those sunset evening surfs and beach trips. Newquay BID will be running a series of social media, digital and print campaigns throughout 2019, promoting the free evening parking within the town and to encourage evening dwell time, with suggestions on what to do and see in Newquay after 4pm.
While Newquay is rightly famous for its wonderful beaches and world-class surfing, the town is home to a variety of businesses that showcase local Cornish produce, fresh fish and seafood and innovative menus that have been inspired by Newquay’s stunning ocean location. Newquay also has a thriving live music scene, with everything from chilled acoustic guitars on the beach, traditional Cornish choirs and foot-stamping ska and rock. The town also plays host to DJ’s playing the best of Northern Soul, drum and bass, trip-hop and reggae, Latin and funk. The Lighthouse Cinema, based in the heart of town next to St George’s Road car park, also has the latest blockbusters and family movies as well as live filmed performances from some of the most critically acclaimed theatres in Europe, including the Royal Opera House and the National Theatre.
So, if you’re looking for a new experience this year or just want to revisit some old favourites, take advantage of Newquay’s free evening parking and explore everything that the town has to offer on those long, lazy summer evenings…

Cornwall Council are introducing Pay on Exit car parks which should be rolled out later this month. Both Manor Road car park and St Georges car park will benefit from this new technology, making it easier for users as well as supporting local economies. Each of these car parks will have a barrier-controlled access and exit with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) at the entrance and exit that will record the number plate of the vehicle and its time of arrival. These pay on exit systems are designed to encourage dwell time within town centres. Please see the Cornwall Council website for full information on this technology and the upcoming live date.
