Newquay Business Improvement District (BID) is supporting more events than ever across the town this year with both funding and in-kind support to help them to grow, increase visitor numbers and support local businesses and encourage dwell time. These events will bring people and income to the town through accommodation booking, food, drink and retail spend, helping Newquay’s economy to flourish whilst creating a more vibrant Newquay.

Events are a key priority for Newquay BID; creating and promoting a vibrant town and to support local businesses by increasing footfall throughout the shoulder seasons.

Newquay BID has outlined an events strategy for Newquay, which they have used to determine how to support events through an application process. The vision is to create a more vibrant town by scaling up signature events and increasing support for sustainable community and lifestyle events. The objectives are to increase footfall, raise the profile of Newquay, promote sustainable events and support event organisers. The priorities of the BID are to fund lifestyle and community events that have growth potential that are inclusive of heritage, community spirit and that promise to create a feel-good factor.

Alongside funding for these events, Newquay BID can assist with the marketing and promotion of events to encourage higher footfall and build awareness for both the events and the town and act as the pivotal contact for business engagement with these events. Newquay BID will be liaising with businesses to ensure awareness of all events and communicate the potential opportunities where businesses can benefit or get involved with these events. Please keep an eye on the Newquay BID social media platforms or newsletters for more information. Post-event feedback will be obtained from business and event organisers to ensure events continue to develop and positively impact the town and trade.

John Burbridge, Chair of Newquay BID said: “Businesses of Newquay highlighted how important events are for the town and therefore the BID has put this at the heart of their strategy. We want to continue to grow as a destination for events and attract locals and visitors to Newquay for an exciting range of new and existing events that we are supporting this year. Newquay really does have a jam-packed calendar of events which is great to see and really puts Newquay on the map. This year, we received more funding applications than ever before so it’s great to see Newquay putting their stamp on events with the help of funding being available from BID.”

Carla – Marie Jones, BID Manager said: ‘We will be working closely with the event organisers for all funded events to ensure that the events have marketing support they need and identifying key performance indicators of the event to monitor the BIDs investment throughout. We like to ensure that any BID monies are being spent as requested and really making an improvement to the event. Being able to identify those opportunities where businesses can really maximise the increase in footfall or generally get involved is a must for us too. This year, we are looking to increase Newquay BID’s profile and presence at supported events so that we can really fly the flag for Newquay and its businesses.’
