The full schedule for the third Newquay Business Week has been announced. Open to all businesses and their staff in Cornwall, as well as interested members of the public and free to Newquay BID members. Business Week was launched with great success in 2015 and is set to be even bigger and better in 2017.
Newquay Business Week runs from Monday 9th – Friday 13th October. The event brings an impressive roster of business experts from a range of sectors, with a schedule of innovative and informative sessions to motivate, inspire, support, and help businesses thrive. Attending Newquay Business Week offers a fantastic opportunity to inform yourself and benefit your business as well as your employees.
Created by Newquay BID, with sponsorship from The Newquay Voice and PSP Insurance and Financial Solutions Ltd, the full programme of events includes many inspirational sessions hosted by some of Newquay’s leading tourism and hospitality venues. With its thriving business culture and positive business community, Business Week has been designed by Newquay BID to celebrate and unite local businesses and provide a platform to help drive Newquay as a major business destination in Cornwall. Business Week offers visitors to Cornwall access to advice and resources from influential speakers to help nurture and grow their companies at an extremely competitive rate and showcases Newquay as a genuinely flourishing town for commerce and trading.
Business Week starts with a welcome breakfast at Rick Stein, Fistral at 8.am on Monday 9th October. This provides a great opportunity for networking and with Oceanflow Yoga discussing the work / life balance and how to find fulfilment in business and life, this session promises to be a sell-out.
Monday sessions are hosted by the Headland Hotel: talks include Malcolm Bell from Visit Cornwall discussing ‘Tourism in Cornwall: Challenges and Opportunities’, including the ‘Brexit effect’ and how to prepare for change. The Headland Hotel are offering a session on ‘Listening: The Next Level of Service’: all about how to provide Celebrity Service as opposed to mere customer service by really listening to what customers want. Al Titterington from Cornwall Airport Newquay will be updating us on the future of aviation in Cornwall, including the proposed Spaceport in Newquay, and then Kevin Bath, from Newquay-based software development company Flowmoco, will provide an update of Love Newquay, BID’s ground-breaking location-based geo-marketing project which offers multiple digital platforms to Newquay BID members.
Tuesday’s sessions are hosted by the Atlantic Hotel and the first session will be Jackie George and Gregg Harding leading us through the maze of funding and grants available. Then David McGuire of Radix Communications will discuss Content Marketing and how businesses can create the most effective online content. Social media expert Aren Grimshaw will follow with a session on how to make the most of the latest developments on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, including tools, tips and tricks to help businesses ensure their social media platforms are fit for purpose. Then it’s Sarah Pugh from Falmouth-based design and marketing agency Eight Wire discussing how to give your business website a full MOT to maximise digital presence and user engagement.
Newquay View Resort hosts Wednesday’s talks and first up is Gill Pipkin inspiring businesses to become sustainable in a way that both saves resources and enhances reputation. Chris Hines, founding member of Surfers Against Sewage, will follow on with how 21st century businesses can use principles of sustainability in a way that’s good for the planet, people and profit. In the afternoon Matthew Thompson discusses how investing in talent makes great business sense and Rob Edlin provides a guide to selling online with Shopify that will allow you to get going within 24 hours. Closing the day is Sam Winters with a session on ‘Making the Sale’, using a variety of business models and developing business confidence.
Thursday is hosted by the Hotel Victoria: Judi Blakeburn, Brand Director of Watergate Bay Hotel, starts the day with ‘Adapting to a New Reality: Digital Marketing’. Then Jamie Turnbull will be updating us on the latest developments from Google, including SEO best practices and the latest on Google Analytics and Adwords. Oxford Innovation coach Martin Williams, formerly brand manager for Lego, leads a double session and will be sharing his extensive knowledge and experience on marketing strategy and how to build a successful brand that really achieves your business objectives. Then it’s Crowdfunder, UK’s number 1 Crowdfunding platform, with how to build a community to fund and support your ideas and projects.
Friday’s sessions take place at the Carnmarth Hotel. Adam Pearson starts the final day of Business Week with a session that, drawing on the latest neuroscience, will tell us how to use our brains to their greatest potential, for the benefit of businesses and communities. Then it’s the turn of entrepreneur Lucy Cox who, together with business partner and sister Lerryn Ryall, developed ‘Halto’ – an ingenious device that works with halter neck swimwear and is now sold worldwide. Following that session is Stretch from Oceanflow Yoga, the first combined yoga and talk inspiring us to get up and move to reduce the negative effects of sitting at a desk for too long (wear something comfy!). Then it’s Sophie Blake from the multi award-winning blog Muddy Stilettos on successful blogging, writing and storytelling for business.
Business Week culminates in an evening reception celebration at Tom Thumb, Newquay, with a chance to consolidate all those contacts over a G&T or some amazing cocktails.
