Now over a year into its five year term, Newquay Business Improvement District has seen a huge surge of marketing activity in the first few months of Year Two.
The BID, which is focussed on encouraging footfall to the town centre through key marketing, PR, events and street environment projects, has been busy in the last few months, orchestrating a whole host of exciting marketing activity that is sure to set Newquay apart from the rest in the best possible ways.
To date, the BID has created a number of effective marketing and publicity strategies and materials all of which work to promote Newquay as a desitnation and bring to the forefront – the businesses that make the town a fantastic place to live and visit. So far, the Newquay BID team – led by a board of key members of the business community – has implemented a social media strategy, created a Christmas Events Guide, Food and Drink Guide, Newquay Loyalty Card Scheme and is currently setting up a business to business BID website to go live at the beginning of August. Most recently, the BID has also seen a huge success in the launch of its brand new beach and lifestyle magazine, Seven, which will run twice a year.
The rest of Year Two will see a multitude of marketing activity set to promote Newquay positively on national and regional levels. Highly anticipated projects coming up include:
Regional advertising campaign – In the next few months there will be a regional marketing launch, featuring BID advertisingin key transport hubs including Newquay Airport and train stations in the South West including Plymouth, Exeter St Davids, Newton Abbot. These posters are vibrant, reflecting Newquay’s new brand, and will hope to attract regional neighbours to visit Newquay, or those heading to other Cornish destinations, to opt for a day trip to the popular seaside resort.
Summer radio campaign –A county-wide radio campaign was launched last month with Pirate FM. The six week campaign will run throughout the summer, aimed at attracting residents and visitors of Cornwall to come to Newquay on day trips to experience the wide range of activities, events, beaches and town centre restaurants, cafes and shops. The 30 second adverts are currently running across peak listening times until the first week in September.
London Underground ad campaign – A very exciting opportunity to promote Newquay on a national level, the BID has created an ad campaign for the London Underground which will see a Newquay banner promoting www.visitnewuay.org and Seven Magazine to commuters, tourists and tube riders in London. The campaign will be running across 20 sites for four weeks from 25 July – just in time for fantastic exposure during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
BID Manager, Eve Wooldridge, said:
Year One allowed us to explore the options we had as a BID to create a range of really effective and engaging marketing plans to enhance Newquay’s unique offering. We are even more excited about getting our teeth into all of the planned marketing activity for Year Two. The planned initiatives are dynamic, creative and exciting and our new brand means that all of the marketing activities taking place will give Newquay a new look and hopefully put us at the forefront of Cornish destinations.
