Newquay hits the media spotlight again and again, proving it’s the town’s time to shine!

Newquay has been continually hitting national as well as regional headlines for all the right reasons thanks to Newquay Business Improvement District (BID). Working collaboratively with Newquay-based strategic communications agency, Excess Energy Communications since 2011 to support the major, ongoing change in perception of Newquay amongst key target markets, an enduring PR campaign targeting a full range of media and digital media has been one of the key foci of this work.

As a result, the BID alongside Excess Energy Communications has been delivering a plethora of high value and quality press trips for the town since 2011. Through this approach, there has been a whole host of positive press in various major outlets, including The Times, The Sunday Times, BALANCE magazine, The Guardian, The Culture Trip and Flybe’s Flight Time magazine amongst many others, with reputable national publications lauding the town ‘The Cream of Cornwall’ and including quotes such as, ‘This town on Cornwall’s wind-and-wave-whipped North coast is reinventing itself.’

As part of the ‘Destination Newquay’ priority area, press trips are essential for increasing the profile of the town and an essential marketing tool for businesses. The Excess Energy team is continuing to target key journalists and digital influencers to Newquay, out of peak season, in order to reach key markets and has had ongoing major success via this route, with the support of businesses that have lots of new and constantly evolving experiences and stories to tell.

As agreed with Newquay BID via its board members, these key audiences include families, couples, healthy lifestyle holiday makers, the LGBTQ+ community, weekend getaways and celebratory trips from key geographical areas across the UK, and in markets surrounding the inbound flights routes to Newquay for a series of different experiences around activity, relaxation, food and drink, eco-friendly breaks and much more.

Newquay Business Improvement District (BID) Manager, Carla – Marie Jones said, “Maintaining the reputation of Newquay and showcasing the wonderful array of options in this ever-changing town, to potentially new audiences, is something that is super important to all that live and work here. Although Newquay is still, no doubt, on a journey, we have generated more than £700,000 in advertising value equivalent and £2,000,000 in PR value through a range of positive press pieces over recent years.”

Carla continued, “Thanks to the hard work from Excess Energy Communications, we were also recently very well represented in The Sunday Times 50 Best British Beach Guide 2017 with Lusty Glaze being voted the UK’s number one beach overall and Fistral Beach pulling in the UK’s best activity beach accolade. This is a certain sign of the tide turning for the town. We would like to say a huge thank you to those businesses that have hosted press and influencers as part of these trips, as without them, they simply wouldn’t be possible.”

The team at Excess Energy Communications is currently organising Newquay destination press trips for the following publications; Scandinavian Traveller magazine, Devon Life, the Dorset and Bournemouth Echoes, Bath Life and Cardiff Life, Gay UK, and influencer Emma Gannon.  If you would like to be involved in any of these press trips by hosting media on a complimentary basis for inclusion within the coverage, please get in touch with Newquay BID by email info@newquaybid.co.uk
