Newquay will be celebrating St. Piran’s Day 2017 with a fun packed schedule of activities across the weekend of Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th March.
There will be music and song on Saturday 4th with Cornish singing in Central Square with the Newquay Rowing Club Singers, followed by Oll An Gwella Male Chorus live on Gover Lane. The musical celebrations will continue outside Newquay Library.
The traditional St. Piran’s Day parade will take place from 3pm outside The Cribbar on Gover Lane, featuring music and dance, as it makes its way up to Marcus Hill. More performances will take place outside the Town Council Offices and in St. Michaels Church, where refreshments will be provided.
The St. Pirans Day Eve Concert will start at 4.30pm in St Michaels Church.
On Sunday, St. Piran’s Day itself begin with a display at Trenance Cottages from Newquay Old Cornwall Society, from10.30am. U3A dancers and Oll An Gwella will perform live at Trenance Cottages from around 11.00am,
The St. Piran’s Day Service will be led by Rev Jane Kneebone at St. Michaels Church, beginning at 10.30am and Newquay Rowing Club Singers will be involved before appearing (lunchtime) at Central Square.
The weekend celebrations will culminate with a charity ceilidh at Newquay Rowing Club, featuring Newquay Rowing Club Singers, U3A Dancers, Newquay Old Cornwall Society and Oll An Gwella, From 7pm with live music, song, dance and of course, a rousing finale of Trelawny.

And for those who don’t know what St Piran’s Day is…
St Piran’s Day (Cornish: Gool Peran) is the national day of Cornwall, England, United Kingdom held on 5th March every year. The day is named after one of the patron saints of Cornwall, Saint Piran, who is also the patron saint of tin miners.
