Lowender Peran is an annual international festival which celebrates Cornish culture and its Celtic links. Originally held in Perranporth, the festival moved to Newquay in 2015 to great success and saw a week of wonderful cultural events across the town. The festival will return to Newquay from 2nd – 6th November 2016.

The aim of the festival is to promote all aspects of Cornwall’s distinctive culture by creating a showcase of cultural entertainment and events.  The organisers also aim to actively engage key community groups in the festival, and to seek a new audiences for Cornish cultural events.

The event will be made up of concerts, dance, workshops, outdoor events and musical sessions. There will also be Cornish language events, storytelling, a craft fair and talks from the Newquay Old Cornwall Society.

As a festival that takes place in a quieter period, the festival organisers feel they have a commitment to supporting local businesses in the shoulder season.  Each year around 2,500 enjoyed the Lowender Peran festival in Perranporth, with similar numbers attending last years festival in Newquay, we are looking forward to helping achieve growing numbers this year.

The festival has re-branded for 2016, with a new look and wide range of events for all; including live music and concerts for all music fans, from more traditional  acts to those with a more modern take on Celtic sounds.

As an international festival Lowender Peran also attracts a large number of local and overseas visitors and performers every year. This will bring a demand for accommodation providers, food & drink outlets and businesses throughout the town, as well as developing new audiences for Newquay.

Newquay BID is providing support and funding to help promote and develop the festival, bringing more people to Newquay. BID will also working with Lowender Peran organisers to help them find further opportunities for the festival.

Andrew Morris, Director of Lowender Peran, says: “Having grown from its humble roots in Perranporth into one of the leading Celtic festivals, we are delighted to be back and settled in Newquay, for what is now a highlight of the Cornish and Celtic annual event calendar. The venue is simply stunning and provides a picturesque and striking setting for this wonderful spectacle – one that, whether you are a Celt or not, you cannot fail to enjoy! The support Newquay BID gives us makes a huge difference in helping raise awareness of our wonderful festival and we are incredibly grateful for all the advice they have given us leading up to this year’s festival.”
