Newquay’s Christmas lights will be switched on, on Friday 25th November, as part of Newquay BIDs Festive Festival 2016. Organised by Newquay BID and Newquay Town Council, alongside Newquay Lions, the town will be lit up by the spectacular lantern parade, before the blessing of the town Christmas tree and the lights switch on.
Beginning at 3pm Santa’s Reindeer will be arriving at the Hotel Victoria, where you’ll be able to see them until 6pm, although the reindeer will disappear briefly during that time to have their dinner!
At 6.30pm the lantern parade will be setting off from Narrowcliff. The parade will make its way down Cliff Road. Santa and his reindeer will join the parade at the Hotel Victoria, and it will continue down East Street where it will stop at the bottom of Marcus Hill for the switching on of Newquay’s beautiful Christmas lights with Pirate FM, and blessing of the Christmas tree along with the singing of carols, whilst Santa and his reindeer head off to spread Christmas cheer further afield. The parade will then continue through Bank Street to Fore Street, where the event culminates at 8pm with fabulous fireworks at Newquay Harbour, funded by Newquay Town Council. So make sure you don’t miss out.
Gemma Taylor, manager for the Newquay BID said: “We are delighted to be working with Newquay Town Council and Newquay Lions again this year, bringing the Christmas celebrations to town. The event is set to be a real festive treat for all, with Santa and his reindeer, the lantern parade, lights switch on, plus entertainment and late night shopping. The Festive Festival brings thousands of people into the town each year and we hope this year will be better than ever’
Joe Piwecki, Deputy Town Clerk of Newquay Town Council said “Every year it’s amazing to see Newquay come together for the Christmas Lights Switch On, assisted by Pirate FM. We aim to make each year better than the last and hope the community enjoy watching it as much as we do organising it”
Throughout the evening many shops will be opening their doors until 8.30pm, and many will be celebrating Black Friday so keep an eye out for bargains! Newquay’s shop windows will also be coming to life for the BID’s Festive Shop Window Competition to help bring a little extra Christmas spirit to Newquay Town’s Centre.
Throughout the weekend (Friday 25th – Sunday 27th November) Newquay’s annual Music and Ale Festival will be taking place on Fore Street Car Park which is boasting some of Newquay and Cornwall’s best bands, alongside delicious ales and local produce.
