The full schedule for the second Newquay Business Week has been announced. Open to all businesses and their staff in Cornwall, and free to Newquay BID members, Business Week was launched with great success last year and is set to be bigger and better in 2016.
Newquay Business Week is from Monday 10th – Friday 14th October. The event brings an impressive roster of high-end experts to deliver insights and advice, with a schedule of innovative and information sessions to motive, support and help businesses thrive.
Business Week will kick off with a welcome breakfast at Rick Stein, Fistral on Monday 10th October featuring a talk on motivation and business, to get you ready for the week. Business Week will then culminate in with a closing reception at No5 Brewhouse, both events will provide ample opportunity for networking and to meeting other local and Cornish businesses and make new, exciting connections!
Cornwall’s best-selling business author, Chloe Thomas, will be giving a talk on ecommerce. Chloe’s ecommerce podcast is one of the most listened to on iTunes and her book, Ecommerce Masterplan is an Amazon bestseller. Al Titterington, Newquay Airport and Miles Carden of the Space Hub will present an update on how Newquay is set to take off! Malcolm Bell of Visit Cornwall will be hosting a session on the future of the tourism landscape, as well as sitting on a panel debate with Kim Conchie of Cornwall Chamber of Commerce, and Cornwall & Isles of Scilly LEP, discussing ‘The Brexit Effect’ and what the future may hold for Cornish businesses, and how to prepare for change.
Google partner, Rob Edlin will tell you how to get the most from your website. David McGuire of Radix Communications will talk content, and how to create the most effective online content. Heather Coupland of Oxford Innovation will present a session on funding, and The Growth Hub will host a workshop on helping your business move forward. Aren Grimshaw will be talking social media, ensuring your businesses social presence is fit for purpose.
Oxford Innovation coach and marketing guru, Martin Williams, former Global product manager and brand manager for Lego, and Legoland, will be sharing his knowledge on successfully marketing your brand.
Newquay based Crowdfunder will be talking about how crowdfunding can boost your business and the local community. Founder of Surfer’s Against Sewage and sustainability manager at the Eden Project, Chris Hines, will be discussing sustainability for life and business. Matthew Thomson, of Fifteen, part of the Jamie Oliver brand, will be talking about how to get the best from your employees, and how productivity and innovation can help your business. Afra Hope of The Headland Hotel will be sharing the secrets of excellence in customer service.
Newquay based PR agency, Excess Energy, who work with Newquay BID, will be presenting research on key customers of Newquay; presenting the key persons of those who come to Newquay and form key target markets for businesses across the town.
Newquay BID will also be launching a new, revolutionary digital project during Business Week, a not to be missed session, hosted by Kevin Bath of Newquay-based Flomoco. The new project will be the first of its kind in England, and will offer multiple digital platforms and channels to BID members and voluntary members.

With its thriving business culture and positive business community, Newquay Business Week has been designed by the BID to celebrate and unite local businesses, whose collaborative efforts and support have contributed towards the town’s successful and on-going evolution.
The week will offer visitors access to advice and resources from influential speakers to help nurture and grow not only their companies, but also show Newquay as a flourishing town for commerce, trading and an excellent place to do business.
Since the BID’s inception the team has continually created and implemented strategic projects and tools contributing to the revitalisation of the town’s profile. Most communities depend on the strength of their local businesses to grow and thrive and with the BID’s support, Newquay business owners are now seeing how the resort is reaching towards its potential as an attractive place to live, work and do business.
From pioneering start-ups to larger enterprises, all businesses are invited to attend any of the sessions taking place throughout the week. Most will be free of charge and some ask for a small £3 fee which is invaluable considering a hefty fee would usually be charged when seeking advice from the chosen leading speakers.
