Where: Piazza, Crantock Street – 12pm-2pm and Fistral Beach, 3pm-late
Bringing a fantastic showcase of stunts, tricks, aerials and impressive manoeuvers, the Animal Bike Tour will arrive in Newquay on Friday to kick start the weekend in style.
Mixing incredible skill, control, balance and a fair amount of jaw-dropping action, the Animal Bike Tour will return to Newquay’s renowned action sports venue, Fistral Beach, on Friday 31st August.
To start off the day’s events, Animal will host a series of promo stunt displays conveniently located at the Piazza in the town centre. From 12pm-2pm, the Piazza will welcome riders to put on a show for spectators in the town centre. Afterwards, the main event will commence in the car park at Fistral Beach from 3pm-8pm, followed by an Animal-sponsored ‘expression session’ surf competition, film screenings of Alan Stokes’ ‘Strange Beautiful Life’ and after party with DJ sets in the Fistral Beach Bar.
The Animal Bike Tour is Europe’s premier mountain bike show team, featuring two of the world’s best professional mountain bike riders. The Tour incorporates cycling, traditionally at home in mountains and skate parks, and relocated the sport to music festivals, city centres, free sport events and corporate events with dramatic effect.
The Fistral Beach event – which benefits from the coolest of locations right in front of the sand – will consist of Animal clothing’s amazing mobile rig which is kept running super smooth by new team members WD-40, and shouted about by MBUK magazine. Watch and be amazed as the talented riders perform meticulous manoeuvring of trials riding and the high octane, airborne world of dirt jumping. World Champion Martyn Ashton, who is also four times British Champion and Guinness World Record holder, will be appearing at the show, as well as British mountain bike legend Blake Samson, who has racked up first place titles in the King of Dirt Portugal event three years running from 2007-2009, and second place in the UK event in 2009.
What’s more, alongside the bonkers riding there are opportunities to win some very special Bike Tour gear, including limited edition Animal Tour merchandise, WD-40 goodies and MBUK magazines.
The event, which has been running in Newquay since 2002, has been funded and supported by Newquay Business Improvement District and the Animal Store, and organised with the help of local events company, Barefeet Promotions.
Eve Wooldridge, BID Manager, said: “We were really excited to be a part of the Animal Bike Tour in Newquay this year and we feel it’s a great way to round up the season. While the event has traditionally based itself at Fistral Beach, the BID felt it was important to incorporate the town centre and local businesses. As a result, the event will now run across two locations, including the Piazza on Crantock Street, adding to the excitement of the day.”
Nick Webb of Barefeet Promotions, added: “The Animal Bike Tour is a brilliant event that really embraces Newquay’s character and passion for adrenaline sports. In previous years the event has received a massive amount of praise and we hope that this year will bring even more crowds to witness the thrilling displays at both Fistral Beach and the Piazza.”
