Free half hour parkingFREE PARKING Initiative post floods

Cornwall Council has announced their car parking initiative aimed at encouraging people to use the High Street. The first half an hour of car parking fees is free….people need to use the RingGo cashless to pay for their ticket either by paying in advance, using the downloadable smartphone app or by calling 01872-884466. Please download the poster here to promote this initiative that has been prepared by Cornwall Council. We need to spread the word about this so please put it in your windows and tell your customers.

Newquay is selected as a trial town for Car Parking pilot

Cornwall Council have also selected Newquay as one of its trial towns for a parking initiative aimed at encouraging people to come and spend time in the town in the early evening. This is a fantastic announcement of support for our High Street economy.

The trial period will come into force on 15th March (to coincide with the start of the summer tariff season) and will last for 3 months. The parking fees will be reduced from £2.10 or £3 (depending on the car park) to £1. This trial is part of a £1.2mn commitment from Cornwall Council to car parking aimed at helping the local economy. Newquay BID is in the process of putting together press releases for this to go out to local media and we will arrange for posters to be designed so we as a town can promote this initiative. Remember it is only by promoting this initiative that the Council will listen to us when we ask for support in relation to Car Parking.  To this end, we will be working in partnership with Newquay Town Council in the coming months to get survey information via their website to allow us to measure the support provided by this measure.
