The Newquay Business Improvement District (BID) has announced that it will be supporting nine events across the town this year with both funding and marketing to help them to grow, increase visitor numbers and support local businesses.
The 2nd term of Newquay BID started on April 1st 2016, with one of the key priorities being to keep the town a vibrant and busy visitor attraction by supporting an exciting series of events. Behind the scenes the BID team have identified an events strategy for Newquay for the next five years, which they have used to determine how to support events through an application process. The vision is to create a more vibrant town by scaling up signature events and increasing support for sustainable community and lifestyle events. The objectives will be to support local businesses, raise the profile of Newquay, promote sustainable event and support even organisers. The priorities of the BID is to fund lifestyle and community events that have growth potential that are inclusive of heritage, community spirit and will create a feel good factor.
Jonathan Start, Chair of Newquay BID said: “Businesses of Newquay highlighted how important events are for the town and therefore the BID has put this at the heart of their strategy. We want to continue to grow as a destination for events and attract locals and visitors to Newquay for an exciting range of new and existing events that we are supporting. The BID team will be working closely with the event organiser to ensure that the events have marketing support they need and identifying key performance indicators of the event to monitor the BIDs investment, 2016 is going to be a great year for events with something for everyone.
Support for events this year include: Thundercat Racing (13-15th May) Fistral Beach, The Triple Crown Series (Biathlon, Triathlon and Swim/run) ,The Night surf (June 10-11th) Fistral Beach, Miracle Theatre (22nd June) The Headland, Newquay Carnival (9th July) Town Centre, Newquay Fish Festival (16-18th September) The Harbour, Lowender Peran (2-6th November) Town Centre, Music & Ale Festival (25-27th November) Town Centre, St Pirans day 2018 –Town Centre.
Andrew Morris, Director of Lowender Peran said “The support from the BID for our event has opened up a fantastic opportunity for us to raise the profile of our event on a regional basis. Lowender Peran already attracts over 2000 visitors and 300 artists from as far away as Nova Scotia, Canada. This year we have exciting plans for the festival and want to grow the audience by making the festival more accessible for local residents, we will now be able to push our events programme to a wider audience which will not only increase our event footfall but also that to the town”.
