Families can get their skates on to join the ice, at Cornwall’s newest rink between 7th November and 15th January. The rink is thought to be Newquay’s first ever ice rink.

The ice rink, which is a synthetic ice rink, and the same rink as used at Harrods department store in Knightsbridge London, will be opening on Saturday 7th November and is stylishly sheltered in an outdoor area of the hotel’s fabulously festival Winter Wonderland.  Skaters just need to come along wrapped up and ready to enjoy?)  the ice.  Skates are provided by the hotel and no advanced booking is required.

Sophie Kelly of The Esplanade Hotel said: “This year we’re adding extra sparkle to everyone’s festive season – we’re excited to say Cornwall has a new ice-skate rink, here at the Esplanade Hotel beside the sea. We hope this great news will ease some of the disappointment felt about Truro Cathedral being unable to host a rink this Christmas and give everyone another great reason to visit Newquay in the pre-Christmas period.”

Warm drinks and yummy food will be on offer to buy throughout the season and the hotel will also be hosting Santa’s Grotto weekends from 7th December, and for all of the following weekends leading up to Christmas.

Sophie Kelly continued: “We’re also inviting Cornish primary school pupils to take part in a Santa Letter Writing competition for a chance to win an ice-skating session at The Esplanade for their entire class.  A leading Cornish charity will be a beneficiary of the competition, which will encourage young people to think of others in a creative way, whilst donating now and throughout the festive season.”

The Esplanade Hotel’s Winter Wonderland Ice-Rink is open to everyone from 7th November – 15th January. No advanced booking is required to join the festive skating sessions and spectators are always welcome. Little kids need to be able walk before they take to the ice. ‘Big Kids’ (what ages?) cost £6, ‘Little Nippers’ (under 12s), cost £4.

Parents and schools interested in finding out more about the Cornish primary school competition, can visit the hotel website to download competition information. For more information about the rink or to see what else is going on at the hotel, see newquay-hotels.co.uk
